NAPLES, Fla. – Jan. 15, 2019 – 21st Century Oncology introduces the latest technology in CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery, a treatment option that will bring hope to patients with tumors in inoperable or surgically challenging locations. The CyberKnife® System is the world’s first robotic radiosurgery system designed to deliver Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) using high doses of radiation to treat cancerous and non-cancerous tumors with microscopic precision, targeting only the tumor and minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
Despite its name, CyberKnife is not a knife. Instead, it is a robotically guided laser-like radiation delivery system that can be used to treat a broad range of well-defined, small tumors in the brain and throughout the rest of the body. Using image guidance software, the CyberKnife tracks and continually adjusts radiation treatment as the patient or tumor shifts position. Most commonly, CyberKnife can be used to treat cases of prostate, lung, liver, and brain cancer.
Not only does the CyberKnife offer a technologically advanced treatment plan for patients, but it allows for a non-surgical, pain-free procedure option with no recovery time. In addition, CyberKnife offers faster treatment sessions that can be performed in five days or less.
“With CyberKnife, extraordinary cancer treatment has been delivered to Southwest Florida. This advanced technology allows the treatment of cancer while minimizing the side effects of therapy,” said Chaundre Cross, MD, Radiation Oncologist at 21st Century Oncology.
